"Kids Academy's Most Outstanding Presented Centre of the Year 2011"
Kids Academy Woongarrah
'A Word from the Director'
Hello and welcome to Kids Academy Woongarrah (also affectionately known in the local area as “Hooks”, due to its previous name under the same owner “Captain Hooks”). We would love to meet you and would love to have you visit us here at the centre.
As a fulltime non-teaching Director I am dedicated to meeting the needs of our many families and children and am always available to answer any questions, help you with your fees and accounts or just to have a friendly chat!
We are a purpose built preschool, catering for up to 70 children per day across three rooms. This means that we are able to enjoy smaller groups, thereby building great relationships between our staff and your child and family.
We provide a comprehensive Pre-School program catering for each child’s development and individual needs. All of our children big and small will be part of our specialised school readiness program “School Wise”. We enjoy the benefits of having additional trained educators in each of our rooms, all of whom are experienced in preparing your child for school. Staff plan for each child through observation and implement a program that is full of fun and challenging activities to extend each child’s learning. We encourage close partnerships with the local schools to assist in the transition to “big school” when that time comes.
Children going off to big school will graduate from our centre and be involved in a formal Graduation Ceremony at the end of the year. Each child is presented with a Portfolio which tells a story of their learning journey whilst at Kids Academy Woongarrah.
Enjoy daily our power point presentations of your child’s day which can be viewed in their playroom on large LCD screens. It’s a great way to generate chat between yourself and your child about their day, and gives you a heads up on many things they have been engaged in during their time away from you
We know you and our child will enjoy your time at Kids Academy Woongarrah. We would love you to come along, have a play and take a look at everything we have to offer!
I look forward to meeting you and your family soon.

Kids Academy Woongarrah Philosophy
Early childhood education is an active process. Children learn most readily through their interaction with the physical and social environments relevant to them at the time. Education emerges from the child's desire to satisfy their natural curiosity and urge to learn. This motivation to learn affects the quality and quantity of their learning.
We aim to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for children and parents, where children are encouraged and respected. Our program seeks to assist children to understand the environment that continually influences their lives. It will foster the growth of positive attitudes and values towards learning. Each child will be treated as an individual with the program focusing on the development of the whole child through a balanced curriculum in all developmental areas including:
- The Healthy, Active & Physical Child - fine and gross motor skills
- The Thinking, Investigating, Exploring, Problem-solving Child - thinking, problem-solving and decision making skills
- The Social Child - responsibility, friendship, trust and affection for others
- The Communicating Child - communication and comprehension skills
- The Feeling Child - self-esteem, confidence and expression of feelings
- The Creative Child - expression of ideas, understanding and recognition of problems
- The Spiritual & Moral Child - respect for the natural environment and livings things, appreciation of beauty in its many manifestations and a sense of what if fair and just
The program will include a variety of activities within these areas to cater for each child's individual needs, strength, interests and experience. To accommodate indidual learning styles. a diverse range of teaching methods will be utilized. These include free discovery situations, child initiated and directed activities, as well as teacher initiated and assisted experiences. Each child will be listened to, guided, encouraged and challenged to promote learning and self worth. Each child will be treated as an equal participant of our society. Children will be encouraged to accept others individuality and respect differences in cultures, attitudes, abilities and gender.
The centre will offer a safe, caring, non-threatening learning environment that promotes the children's well-being through open communication with families and support of individual needs, cultures and an anti-bias curriculum which is challenging, stimulating and educationally balanced. Parent and family involvement and communication is welcomed and valued. We aim to provide parents with and encourage involvement in a wide range of activities and experiences within the centre and wider community. A link between families, the centre and staff and community creates a balanced and informed curriculum. Families are encouraged to share their culture and traditions within the centre community where they will be respected as an important part of children's lives and learning. Staff are valuable resources, their input into the centre is valued and respected. Staff are encouraged to pursue their professional goasl and development and their culture and life experiences are valuable resources to be utilized to enrich our service.
